Two of the most popular methods for decorating t-shirts and custom printed promotional items are digital direct to garment (DTG for short) and screen printing.

What is DTG – Quick Version:

Our printing is done using the highest quality equipment via DTG (Direct To Garment) process.  What is DTG?  Well DTG is a method that prints an image directly onto a garment  or fabric through what is essentially a modified version of a traditional inkjet printer.

What is Screen Printing – Quick Version:

Screen printing, also known as serigraphy, is a method of creating an image on, in our case, fabric, paper or some other object by pressing ink through a screen with areas blocked off by a stencil.

Pros & Cons of Digital Direct-to-Garment

DTG Pros

  • No limit to the number of colors in a design
  • Can print photos and detailed images
  • Very affordable for on-demand singles and smaller orders
  • Soft to the touch

DTG Cons

  • Not a significant savings for large quantity orders
  • Color of the shirt can influence final print more so than screen printing
  • Exact color matching can be difficult due to the CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow & Black) ink used in printers
  • Usually has a limited print area (i.e. no “all-over” printing)
  • Can only print on fabric

Pros & Cons of Screen Printing

Screen Printing Pros

  • Cost effective for large orders
  • Easier to print larger prints, sleeves, etc.
  • Can silk screen on just about any fabric/ substrate
  • Popular

Screen Printing Cons

  • Limited number of colors per design
  • Setup costs including artwork fees, screens, & proofing
  • Singles/ small orders are very expensive
  • Sometimes a tacky or thick finish
  • Photos and extreme details don’t show up as well

Washing Suggestions

To keep your shirts (DTG or silk screened) looking nicer longer wash them inside out, cold wash and dry on low heat.
